This position is located in the Office of the Director (OD), Congressional and Legislative Affairs Staff office (CLAS), Indian Health Service (IHS), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) located in Rockville, Maryland. Works directly with the IHS Director in managing and providing leadership on complex, sensitive, diverse and unique legislative and political matters involving American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN's). The incumbent reports to the Chief of Staff and as the Director, CLAS, provides leadership and executive direction within the IHS for legislative planning to address the Administration's agenda.
The IHS is required by law to give absolute preference to qualified applicants who meet the Secretary of the Interior's definition of Indian for appointment to vacancies within the IHS in accordance with established IHS policy as outlined in the Indian Health Manual Part 7, Chapter 3.
