The Director, Pathology Services reports to the Executive Director, Department of Pathology, Laboratory Services. The Director, Pathology Services has 24 hour responsibility for strategic, tactical and operational oversight of the various functions serving Long Beach Medical Center and Miller Children and Women’s Hospital.
In concert with the Executive Director, this position is responsible for directing and leading certain assigned Technical areas of the Department of Pathology to ensure that technical, fiscal and human resources are effectively managed to provide excellent ancillary services that exceed the prevailing “market standard”. Assigned Technical areas must meet all regulatory standards and the Pathology department must fulfill its role in accomplishing all Medical Center goals and objectives. The Director, Pathology Services is responsible for provision of Core Lab, and other assigned divisions, and program development throughout the medical centers, and is accountable for the business aspects as well as integrates local activities within MHS business plans to include Best Practice Initiatives using LEAN Principles.
The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s Degree in an allied health field as well as certification and state licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist and a minimum of 3 years management experience in a hospital laboratory. Knowledge of regulatory standards and safety of environment. Ability to train and develop staff.
